When we were at the last retreat we did (at Camp Oakhill), one of the worship bands played this song called “How He Loves” a couple of times. The words really caught my attention, so when I came home, I googled it up and found a so-so recording from a guy I’ve never heard of.
I enjoyed it for a while and then kind of forgot about it… you know how music gets burried for months and you don’t think about it?
Well, this week, the David Crowder Band released the first single off their upcoming album “Church Music”, and guess what song it is: no… not “Pharoah, Pharoah” (aren’t you paying attention?)
Since they play it like it’s going out of style on K-Love, you’ve probably heard the song “The Motions” by Matthew West.
But just in case you haven’t, give it a listen.
The video is mostly about his battle to re-gain his voice after surgery on his vocal chords, but the words to the song are powerful and I think they make a good prayer for all of us:
After church today, I was at lunch, and as I aften do right after church, I was kind of re-playing what had just happened to see if I forgot anything or left anything unclear or incorrect in my teaching.
It’s time for our next Fireside Worship meeting. It is set for this Sunday, April 26th immediately following service until 6 p.m. We are meeting again at the Purser’s residence which is in Raleigh. We are asking that if attending you bring either a snack or a drink to share. The Purser’s will be providing us with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. Please let me know if you are going to attend so we can plan accordingly. It will be much like last time, hanging out around the fire, taking a hike through the woods, and then spending time in worship and prayer together. I hope you all can attend, it will be a wonderful time of food, fellowship, but most importantly worshipping our GREAT GOD!!!!!
As most of you know we have been watching a 4 part teaching series called the Nature of Jesus by Gayle Erwin. So far we have seen parts 1 and 2 and have been tremendously blessed as we look at the nature of our Savior and apply it to our own lives as we follow Christ in this world. Gayle has been teaching this series for years and I continue to learn and grow ever time I see it. We can never stop learning as we look at Jesus. I want to encourage you guys to visit his website as there are many other resources to grow through. For those of you that have been unable to attend our mid-week study you can stay plugged in with what we have been learning by watching parts 1 and 2 here. I pray that you are all growing in your faith as you walk with our Savior King.
In the teaching on Philip this morning, from Acts 8, I read you a quote about faith from a book called Visioneering, by Andy Stanley.
Here it is again if it caught your attention:
Spiritually speaking, faith is confidence that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He has promised to do. Faith is not a power or a force. It is not a vehicle by which we can coerce God into something against His will. It is simply an expression of confidence in the person and character of God. It is the proper response to the promise or revelation of God.
…..
Acting on your faith is the ultimate expression of devotion, admiration, and adoration. Acting on your faith demonstrates that you believe God is who he says he is, and he will do what he has promised to do. Nothing is more honoring to your heavenly Father than making decisions based upon what He has claimed about Himself. This is especially true when circumstances seem to dictate a different response.
